  2. brilliant colour as an early member of the
  3. Fauves, mainly painting landscapes. He later
  4. abandoned Fauve colour. He also wrote poetry,
  5. novels, and essays. Initially he was inspired
  6. by van Gogh but by 1908 Cezanne had become
  7. the chief influence. Vlaminck was a
  8. multitalented eccentric: his pastimes
  9. included cycling, playing the violin, and
  10. farming.
